Adele Headed Toward 23rd Week on Billboard 200, Whitney in Top 10

Following its multiple-award-win high at this year’s Grammys, Adele’s 21 is shooting toward a 23rd non-consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard 200.

According to MTV, the Nielsen SoundScan report shows album sales of 247,000, pushing Adele in the direction of 8 million copies sold in the U.S., and tying her with records made by Prince’s Purple Rain.

Adele isn’t the only powerhouse diva making numbers. Whitney Houston’s discography continues to sweep the top 10 following her death, with her greatest-hits album sitting at #2 (112,000) and her self-titled debut at #10 (25,000).

Also in the top 10 are Tyga’s Careless World: Rise of the Last King at #6 (37,000), Drake’s Take Care at #8 (29,000), and Rihanna’s Talk That Talk at #9 (25,000). And despite Cudi’s complaint about his label’s lack of album shipment, WZRD comes in at #3 with 66,000 copies sold. – Stephanie Long
