Are You Too Quick To Assume Foul Play?
There is nothing worse than being in a relationship with someone who accuses you of cheating, even though you've been on your best behavior. Unfortunately, most males with a close friend of the opposite sex or caught in a questionable situation has probably been in this predicament, no matter how much sense the explanation makes.
Much like many men around the world, Eddie George was the latest celebrity to be ridiculed by the media for infidelity this week. After public accusal, he was forced to speak out issuing the statement below:
“As part of a two-day charity golf event, a group of us who had played together on Tuesday celebrated at dinner. The group included Rachel Connor.”
“After dinner, as everyone left the restaurant together, we realized that Rachel lived the closest to where I was staying. So she offered to drop me off. I believed her to be competent to drive and not impaired at all. We were stopped shortly after we left.”
“At first, I hesitated to respond to this story. But I now see that people are willing to think the worst. So my wife, Tamara , and I believe we have to address this.”
“Rachel Connor was simply trying to be nice by offering me a ride. No one in our group felt she was impaired or we all would have stopped her from driving.”
Before people even head the story, people assumed foul play with only two facts. One, that Eddie George was found in the passenger seat of a car with a white woman named Rachel Conner; and two, that Rachel Conner was arrested for being intoxicated. With that minimal information, nearly every female blog and Twitter went wild with comments suspecting the worse, followed by "side eyes" and questions about his marriage and commitment to wife, Tamara Johnson. The only facts we know are that he met a girl at a golf tournament, he accepted a ride and was in route to his hotel. That leaves reasonable doubt that anything was going to occur, so why were women so quick to suspect the worse? In such a progressive society, do women still believe that all men cheat and that men and women cannot simply be friends who car pool?
Now that the statement has been released and the explanation is completely plausible, can we give Eddie George an every man in America a fair chance? While every situation is not as innocent as a spouse may claim, trust is necessary for any relationship to work. Listening to your girls, lack of faith and constantly accusing your man at home could plant the seed and be the reason that your man ultimately decides to seek the comfort of another.
