James Franco to Play Riff Raff in Upcoming Harmony Korine Film
Remember Riff Raff from VH1's “From G’s to Gents”? There’s a character based on him in the upcoming Selena Gomez film “Spring Breakers,” and he’s being played by Hollywood heartthrob James Franco.
As it turns out, director Harmony Korine originally reached out to Riff Raff to be in the movie, but according to him, he was out of the country.
"The role I would have played would be like a drug dealer, or the friend of a drug dealer, Gucci Mane," Riff Raff told FUSE’s David Shapiro. "James Franco was in the movie, but I was supposed to be in there also. Now James Franco is playing me."
He even gave Franco some style guidance.
"I sent him a few things. But all you gotta do [to see how I dress] is search through my videos. I got a pretty distinct style, with the braids, the jewelry."
Despite not being in the movie, the rapper said he feels “privileged.”
"Even though I couldn't be a part of this project, I'm still glad that James Franco could play the role of me,” he said. “That's like if Denzel Washington was playing the role of O.J. Simpson. Even though it's not O.J. Simpson, O.J. Simpson still gotta be like, 'Denzel Washington is playing me.'" —Stephanie Long
