George Zimmerman’s Attorney to Ask For Bail

George Zimmerman’s attorney is planning to ask a judge for bail following Zimmerman’s being charged with killing Trayvon Martin (via CNN).

“My hope is that the judge will grant a bond, and that it’ll be a bond that the family can make,” Mark O’Mara said Wednesday (April 11). “They are not a family of means. So that’s going to be difficult to begin with, and that conditions are that you stay local, I think that may be difficult.”

Meanwhile, Zimmerman is concerned about whether or not he’ll receive a fair trial in Sanford, where many are protesting for his arrest. But Prosecutor Angela Corey says that prosecution will be determined by fact.

“I can assure they will only get the relevant, admissible evidence on which can then base their decisions,” she said. “Let me emphasize that we do not prosecute by pressure or petition. We prosecute cases based on the relevant fact of each case and on the laws of the state of Florida.”

Corey announced Zimmerman’s charging yesterday, which marked an official close to the investigation. —Stephanie Long
