George Zimmerman's Lawyer Wants New Judge for Trayvon Martin Case
Problems are already arising in the trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin (via Gawker). According to CNN, Mark O'Mara, Zimmerman’s lawyer, formally requested yesterday (April 16) that Seminole Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler remove herself from the case. The reason for the request is linked to Recksiedler’s husband, who works with a CNN analyst who has publicly commented on the case.
On Friday, [Recksiedler] said she would entertain motions to disqualify her from the trial after discovering that her husband works with Mark NeJame, an attorney whom Zimmerman approached about representing him and has since widely commented on the case in the media. NeJame also is a CNN contributor who has been asked to provide analysis on this case.
O’Mara says the association between Recksiedler and NeJame could create issues due to possible personal bias. —Stephanie Long
