Go Mariah! 3 Reasons I Am Getting Right for the Summer
Mariah Carey's new cover for Shape magazine immediately makes me want to sing “it’s a new dawn, a new day, a new life, and I’m feeling good.”
In the May issue, Mariah talks about how she lost 30 pounds after giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe, and the singer says dropping weight did more than help her fit into smaller clothes, it also brought her confidence back—not to mention her flat abs. I may not have Jenny Craig—or personal trainers and chefs—on my side but I am definitely feeling Mimi’s new slimmed down look, as well as her fellow weight loss spokespersons Janet Jackson and Jennifer Hudson. These ladies have inspired me to get right for the summer and here are three reasons why.
It’s summer! Plain and simple, there’s no hiding in the summer. In the fall and winter you might be able to layer some things to cover up body parts you don’t want the world to see but in the summer it all comes off. You don’t even have to hit the beach to see summer is a time for toning. The heat from the sun calls for tank tops, short bottoms, and maybe a bare midriff if you can pull it off, which means those areas need to be right.
Confidence! Confidence isn’t synonymous with being thin; it’s about being comfortable in your skin—and those tank tops, short bottoms, and crop tops the summer calls for. When you put in work in the gym, your confidence shoots through the roof and you feel better about showing more of your body throughout this season. The more you see results, the better you feel about yourself and other people will notice that confidence too.
Energy! Getting your body right isn’t all about the vain side of it, it’s also important for your health. We don’t even have to talk serious diseases, when you work out and get your body in shape you have more energy and stamina which is what you’ll need out in the summer heat. This time of year is big for outdoor activities like beach volleyball, Frisbee tossing, and swimming, and you don’t want to be the one dragging behind everybody else. Toning up those muscles and losing the fat will help you keep up.
