Aziz Anzari Talks His Cameo in Kanye West's 'Cruel Summer'
It didn't take much convincing for NBC's "Parks and Recreation" funny man Aziz Ansari to score a cameo in Kanye West's short film "Cruel Summer."
"He (Kanye) was basically like, 'Hey, do you want to go to Qatar for a day and shoot a thing in this movie? It's gonna be on seven screens and you can do whatever you want,' Ansari told MTV News. "And I was like, 'Why not do that?' And I was available, so I went and did it."
'Cruel Summer' ties in with the highly anticipated G.O.O.D. Music compilation album to be released this summer. Ansari, who has performed hit skits about his friendship with Kanye in comedy shows, makes a brief appearance in the film, that made its debut at Cannes Film Festival last month to a select few. Even he himself has not seen the movie.
"I was only there for a day, so I know as much as has been said. But you got to admire the guy for being like, 'I'm going to shoot a movie on seven screens' and [doing] it like a month later. He told me that, and I was like, 'Alright' and then he did," Ansari said. "It's done. He showed it at Cannes. That's pretty crazy."
'Ye's "Otis" co-star also says he may make an extended cameo in the State-side version of the G.O.O.D music film. "He said he was going to add more of my scene in there when they play it in New York," Ansari said, but West would have to find venues that support the seven-screen display first.
