Unemployment Falls To 7.8%; Economy Creates 114,000 Jobs

Movies & TV

The latest news upon the unemployment status of Americans received a boost, as it has dropped to the lowest it has been in almost four years.

The nation is collectively releasing a sigh of release as the Labor Department reported today (10/5) that the unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in September, a decline of 0.3 percentage points and the lowest since January 2009. The good news should give President Barack Obama a potential upbeat talking point as the presidential race heads into the final innings. The report also included an interesting stat: the economy created 114,000 jobs.

A number that was expected by the government, but the influx of new jobs coincides with a survey of households from which the jobless rate showed 873,000 job gains last month, the most since June 1983. The drop in unemployment came even as Americans come back into the labor force to resume the hunt for work.

With these numbers looking positive for the Commander-in-Chief, maybe Mitt Romney will think twice before he threatens to take away work from the likes of Jim Lehrer and Big Bird.
