Hurricane Sandy couldn’t stop gaming aficionados and cinephiles from hitting the theater to check out Disney’s animated film, “Wreck-It Ralph.” The movie, which stars John C. Reilly and Jane Lynch, is about a video game character who destroys everything in his path, and it made history on Sunday grossing $49.1 million in ticket sales to place #1 at the box office.

The Disney animated film earned an unique distinction as “Wreck-It Ralph” marked the highest-grossing opening weekend in their animation history.

Hammered into number two submission was “Flight,” the Denzel Washington / Don Cheadle starring film, which generated $25 million at the U.S. box office. Coming in at a close third place was the critically-acclaimed Iran hostage thriller, “Argo,” which brought in $10.2 million in sales. Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, “Argo” has grossed a total of $75.9 million in its three weeks in movie theaters.
