NEW MIXTAPE: Listen to Nelly’s “Scorpio Season”

Since his Country Grammer debut in 2000, Nelly has only dropped a couple of mixtapes. His 38th birthday marks the release of Scorpio Season, a 14-track street tape featuring production from Drumma Boy and Detail plus others, and features with Chris Brown, Trae da Truth, B.o.B and his St. Lunatics crew. The tape starts off with the slow, syrupy synths of “Like Dat” before Nelly warps his classic “Country Grammer” into a grittier, modern-day shout out to strip clubs like Miami’s King of Diamonds and Atlanta’s Magic City on “C-N-F (Country Nigga Fly).” (Sorry, Donald Trump and Bill Gates.) The track is one of the tape’s standouts. Also part of the collection are the St. Lunatics honchos’ collaborations with B.o.B on “MJ” (Jordon, not Jackson), a bonus track off Bobby Ray’s recent Strange Clouds, and the Breezy romp “Marry Go Round,” which leaked this past summer. In comparison to Nelly’s 2011 mixtape O.E.M.O., Scorpio Season is better and worthy of the download. Stream it below or get it here.
