ASAP Rocky Speaks On ‘1 Train’ Posse Cut; Linking With Skrillex

A$AP Rocky has much respect for the past—he’s named after legendary rapper Rakim, after all—and he shows it on LongLiveA$AP’s eternal collaboration, “1 Train.”

The Hit-Boy produced record, with its swaying strings and hard knocks, evokes nostalgic ’90s Big Apple rap. And with it’s six guests, including Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Yelawolf, Danny Brown, Action Bronson and Big K.R.I.T., it follows the tradition of past posse cuts.

“I said all of the young cats of my era, not none of the old hot niggas,” Rocky dishes on the his selection process for the track, singling out Big K.R.I.T.’s finale as most impressive. “The young cats who I respect eclectically. I just look at it like, all of them had something different to offer and bring to the table as far as delivery and style wise. Everybody sounds like an original, nobody is rapping like modern-day rapping.”

DJ/producer Skrillex makes an unexpected cameo on “Wild For The Night,” yet Rocky says the collaboration happened organically.

“He’s a really good friend of mine,” he says. “We just made a song for the stuff that we do, because anytime I’m with him we’re hanging out, going crazy.”
