Elle Varner Covers VIBE Vixen's Dec/Jan Digital Issue
On any given day, I can hop on the subway unnoticed, except for a few meaningless New York City stares. And, frankly, I prefer the certain invisibility my civilian life affords me. But that’s all changing. Not really dodging paps à la Beyoncé (and never will) but this here e-zine comes with hungry eyes giving me an almost paralyzing pause—Am I making the right moves? Am I on the right coast? Oh, and I am truly up in arms about my suffering love life. Even as I write this letter—stressing, palms a little sweaty—it’s hard to finish with a veteran’s calm in anticipation of the attention that’s sure to follow or the lifestyle I’m so eagerly welcoming… kinda. Not sure which way I’m headed, all I know is I’m just warming up.
Elle Varner’s story is similar. She’s adjusting, too. The perfectly imperfect girl is not exactly scared of the spotlight. More like willfully trekking toward that fame monster and completely owning her new R&B-soul crown, though hesitant. Not an easy feat when rubbing elbows with music's accomplished elite class—she recently took home Best New Artist at the Soul Train Awards—and matriculating amongst this academy's brightest, rising stars (Miguel, Frank Ocean). Luckily, she unveils her newfound confidence just in time for a new year.
