TRAILER: “Star Trek Into Darkness” Promises Vengeance Will Be Fulfilled

Movies & TV

Following the new poster for “Star Trek Into Darkness” is an announcement trailer that looks and sounds more like a declaration of war. See for yourself after the break. Directed by J.J. Abram, “Star Trek Into Darkness” is an epic sequel to the awesome reboot of the sci-fi franchise. The announcement clip focuses mostly mainly on an as-yet-to-be revealed baddie, played by Benedict Cumberbatch (who also plays Smaug in “The Hobbit”). Many are considering that Cumberbatch may or may not be playing either Gary Mitchell or Khan — depending on which “Star Trek” fansites you check out. But it is his menacing tone and ominous insight which should worry cinephiles (“You think your world is safe? It is an illusion,” Cumberbatch purrs as scenes of carnage unfold.) The full trailer for “Star Trek Into Darkness” will hit the big screen on Dec. 17th, but until then you can look at these final moments of peace in the clip below. We have the Japanese announcement teaser, which includes an extra bit of footage and dialogue. Without spoiling anything for you, beam up, press play and enjoy watching Captain Kirk step up to save the world (again) below: “Star Trek Into Darkness” stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, the aforementioned Benedict Cumberbatch, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and John Cho. You can watch the U.S.S. Enterprise warp into theaters on May 17, 2013. Props: Empire
