10 Exercise Excuses and Solutions

Vibe Vixen Woman ScaleThe #1 new year's resolution is always weight loss. We all hope to trim down for spring when our motivation is at an all time high. But somewhere in mid February morale falls off, and gym attendance is low. Say goodbye to laziness once and for all. We compiled a list of the 10 most used excuses and provided solutions to keep you motivated for a successful new year.

Vibe Vixen Woman Asleep

1. “I’m too tired”

Ironically, exercise is a cure for being drained! If you’re exhausted because you aren’t sleeping well, a solid diet and exercise routine can be the answer. Your body will enjoy the post workout endorphin rush you receive after a good sweat session. And you may even sleep like a baby at night.

Kick that tired excuse to the curb by having your exercise gear ready in the morning so you don't waste time getting ready. Or if you workout in the afternoon, don’t allow yourself to get comfortable at home until you’ve completed your daily workout.

Vibe Vixen Woman Sweat Hair2. “My hair will mess up”

Hair is a woman’s crown and glory, but does vanity take precedence over our health?

Let’s play a game of ‘Would You Rather?’. I’ll start. Would you rather look amazing in that hot dress in your closet you’ve been dying to wear? Or would you rather be uncomfortable in your clothes with a fly hairdo?

Thought so.

Drop the hair excuse and pick up a protective wrap that saves your hairstyle by absorbing the sweat. Also, try rocking new (perhaps natural) hairstyles that allow for versatility in your new lifestyle. If you’re thinking of transitioning from chemical relaxers, this may be the perfect push you need.

Vibe Vixen Frustrated Woman3. “I never see results”

On average, it takes 4 weeks to notice a difference in your physical appearance, 8 weeks for your friends and family to notice, and 12 weeks for the world to take notice.

In short, patience is everything. Make a plan and commit to it. Stick with a comprehensive plan for at least 12 weeks and see where it gets you. If you find you need to make adjustments, go for it. But no matter what, don’t quit!

Tip: When you’re ready to give up, think about where you would be now if you stuck it out a year ago. Hmmm...

vibe vixen woman yoga4. “Exercise is boring”

Running on the hamster wheel replaying Beyoncé, is going to suck the life out of your gym routine. Exercise isn’t inherently boring, but repetition on the other hand is quite monotonous.

It seems that we’ve been brainwashed to believe that exercise is only effective if we do the same thing everyday. Lose that attitude and do what you like. Try a Zumba class and dance off the pounds, or sweat off inches at a Bikram Yoga studio. If you’re more aggressive, join a kick boxing or karate class. Take advantage of the classes at your gym or keep a fresh stack of exercise DVDs to keep you motivated.

Vibe Vixen Multitasking woman5. “I don’t have enough time”

This classic excuse is a go-to for women everywhere. It’s not easy being a working woman, a mother, a wife, a socialite, and maintain a killer body, but it's possible.

If you constantly put your physical fitness on the back burner you will suffer daily with health issues and self confidence issues. Throw out that excuse away and learn to make fitness work for you with simple steps. While you wait for your coffee to brew in the morning, try a few sets of squats. While you are at your desk, give your bottom a break and do standing calf raises. While watching TV with your kids try tricep dips off the couch. Making time for yourself is important, even if it means doing curls with soup cans.

Vibe Vixen Woman Looking at Scale6. “I’m too embarrassed to exercise”

Shame is a dangerous cycle. You find yourself ashamed of the weight you've gained, then too ashamed to do something about it. This cycle spins until you’ve dug yourself into a deep hole. Make an effort to stop pointing the finger and start shedding the pounds.

Who knows if one of those trim chicks on the treadmill at the gym was just like you a few months ago. Chances are you will find encouragement rather than judgment from those around you.

If you’re still too shy to brave the gym, get your fitness routine in motion by walking. Physical fitness doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a gym rat. Ease into a routine by taking a stroll around your neighborhood. Once your confidence grows, dive into different workout programs to find your new groove.

Vibe Vixen Woman Gym7. “I can’t afford a gym membership”

If this is your excuse, it’s time to get creative. You don’t need all the amenities a gym has to offer to get a good sweat going. Jog on your local high school track, use the pull up bar at the kids playground, or set up a Zen yoga class for one in your own backyard. You may find a gym-free fitness routine to be refreshing, and chances are you won’t miss the sweaty gym atmosphere.

Vibe Vixen woman texting8. “I’ll start on Monday”

I am a notorious procrastinator, once I have a task to complete I’ll find a way to do everything else except what I’m supposed to be doing. While it may be okay to take your time with returning a library book or folding your laundry, you don’t have that luxury with your health.

Forget the calendar and adopt a “right now” attitude. Get in motion today, not tomorrow. Think of if this way: the time you waste avoiding the workout could have been spent actually doing it!

Vibe Vixen Stretching9. “I’m too sore”

It’s an unpleasant reality of exercise, soreness is inevitable. There are between 650-850 muscles in the human body, so your Pilates class is bound to make some of those muscles sore. Get in the habit of accepting the soreness and then fight through it. Use a foam roller over your muscles pre and post workout to properly stretch your muscles. Both chocolate milk and tonic water provide relief from achy muscles as post workout beverages.

Most importantly, stretch! Try working in yoga classes between hard core workouts to balance out the pain. Just remember, eventually the soreness will subside.

Vibe Vixen Woman Weight10. “I don’t want to bulk up”

Women are usually turned off by the idea of becoming too muscular, so they shy away from lifting weights. But in reality, muscle is needed to burn fat. The stronger you are, the faster burn the calories.

Grab a 10 pound kettle-bell and swing it like a pendulum between your legs for cardio and strength training, or do dead-lifts with a body bar for lean arms.

Studies show that those who incorporate weight training into their workout routine burn more calories while away from the gym than those who rely on a strictly cardio based fitness program.

CupcakKe Reveals Abusive Boyfriend Led Her To Contemplate Suicide

Months of abuse led to the suicidal tweet posted by Chicago native CupcakKe, earlier this month. In a lengthy message posted to her Twitter account over the weekend, the 21-year-old rapper admitted that she’s been battling depression, brought on by an abusive ex-boyfriend.

In the post titled “my disturbing read,” CupcakKe accuses a man named, Christopher Terrell, of stealing her credit cards and terrorizing her throughout their relationship.

“This is someone I’ve been dating for the past [five] months,” she wrote in the now deleted post. “Out of the kindness of my heart I gave this man over [$30,000] during this period [of] time because I understand how it feels to be without (especially after me being homeless). He also has threatened to shoot my mom in the face [and] has threatened me on multiple occasions [and] said he can do it because he will get away with it!!!! I have screenshots, recorded calls, bank statements and all types of proof.

“Me being stupid in love I have [taken] this man back multiple times but every time I take him back the abuse gets [worse],” she added.

Further in the post, CupcakKe explains that her depression from feeling trapped in the relationship resulted in her contemplating suicide. “He [has] snatched off my wig in public, broke phones [and] continues to traumatize me every step of the way! This is what [led] to my ‘I’m committing suicide’ tweet…I have called the cops multiple times and they have yet to do anything about it,” she wrote, adding that Terrell is threatening her with revenge porn. She also admitted to posting his number on social media, and the numbers of women that he “plotted” with  to steal her money.

“Yes I am wrong for that,” she said. “But by me sending this message out it is not for harm to be sent his way, it’s for the police to make things way more serious!!!! Also this message is for every young girl or anyone in general that is struggling with abuse right now. I get u (once you see the first sign) leave!!!”

Kelly Rowland Says Her Highly-Anticipated Project Is "Definitely Coming"

Six years ago, Kelly Rowland released her fourth studio album titled Talk a Good Game. The project boasted hit singles like "Kisses Down Low" and the transparent "Dirty Laundry." Now, the Houston native is preparing to release a project that'll surely satisfy fans' patient earbuds.

In an interview with Billboard, Rowland shared her hopes for putting out a new body of work and the pressure that she's encountered since she's been in the studio. "This is by far the longest, most pressure-filled process ever, only because I know what it's supposed to be and I have been so hard on myself. I know it," she said. "And it's the first time I've said it out loud. I've been extremely hard on myself. But it's definitely coming, and I'm more so excited about this project than anything else."

The news follows the recent release of Rowland's "Kelly" track, which was met with critical acclaim in November 2018. In addition to preparing the release of new music, the "Motivation" singer discussed fans' wish for a Destiny's Child reunion. The rumors have been fueled by social media photographs of Rowland with either Beyonce or Michelle or all three, especially during Beyonce's past Coachella performance. But Rowland assures readers that it's not what they think.

"It's so funny. I guess every time people see us together, they just see music but I see sisterhood, and that's what we are and that's what me, her, Michelle [Williams] and Solange and I are. People see us all together, they immediately think music. I'm like, no. Just family." As Rowland previously mentioned Solange, she hopes to one day work with her again.

"I'm a huge fan," she said. "I love her writing and how detailed and particular she is. I always wanted to figure out how the heck she has so many different layers of harmonies when she is constructing these vocals, and it's so complex but simple. It's genius. It's the genius in her genius mind that she has in there." One of the last times the pair collaborated was on Rowland's "Simply Deep" track off her debut solo album of the same name. Solange also penned a few songs off the same project. Fast forward to 2016, and Rowland's vocals were featured on Solange's iconic A Seat at the Table.

Teyana Taylor To Pay Homage To Ballroom Culture In "WTP" Video

Teyana Taylor aims to keep her hot streak of innovative videos coming thanks to this recent announcement. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (Jan. 9), the "Gonna Love Me" singer will show adoration to ballroom culture in the visual for "WTP."

Directed by Gregory "Beef" Jones, The Aunties Inc., and Taylor herself, the Harlemite takes viewers on her journey to the expression-filled space where she hopes to rack up 10s across the board from a group of judges. The premise of the video also seems to follow a mockumentary format airing on a fictional network named FEMTV. Alongside Taylor, other men and women get ready to display their talents and confidence on the ballroom floor.

"WTP" is featured on the mother-of-one's sophomore album, K.T.S.E., which was released in June 2018. While the rollout's controversy didn't entirely muddle the excitement behind the project's debut, Taylor said she was sold on the idea that her album would be treated as the biggest out of G.O.O.D. Music's string of releases last year.

"I didn't know ahead of time that there wouldn't be any singles or visuals. But I knew that it was going to be the five-album thing," she said during a HOT 97 interview. "[Kanye] wanted [my album] to be last, he wanted mine to be the biggest. That's the way they sauced it up. I was sold."

The video will debut on Jan. 19. Check out the teaser below.
