Sundance 2013: Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson on the Making of 'The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete'
Alicia Keys arrived at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival not as a singer, but as an executive producer.
"I love the fact that I'm here, not necessarily to sing a song, but to present an incredible film," says Keys of the indie flick, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete.
Directed by George Tillman Jr. (Notorious, Men of Honor), The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete follows 14-year-old Mister, played by breakout star Skylan Brooks, who dreams big despite his big people problems. Jennifer Hudson takes on her most tasking role yet, as Mister's mother and heroin addict who relies on prostitution to make ends meet, but not with good consequences.
"She's a very challenging character for me to portray, and its a huge stretch," says Hudson of her role. "It's something completely different from me that's never really been seen before. It's quite edgy."
