Dead Body Found in Water Tank at LA Hotel

A dead body was found in the water tank of an L.A. hotel.

The corpse of 21-year-old Elisa Lam was found in Cecil Hotel’s rooftop water tank after a maintenance worker had been searching for the solution to a low water pressure problem in the building. Guests of the hotel had been drinking and showering with the water emitting from the tank — where Lam’s body had been decomposing for roughly two weeks.

Lam was reported missing by her family early this month. The Canadian woman was last seen at the hotel on Jan. 31. LAPD’s Sgt. Rudy Lopez confirmed that an investigation of her death is underway.

Guest at Cecil Hotel are reportedly shock by the news. One woman, Sabrina Baugh, who was there on an 8-day stay from the U.K., told CNN that the water did seem unusual.

“The water did have a funny taste. We never thought anything of it. We thought it was just the way it was here, she said. “The shower was awful. When you turned the tap on, the water was coming black first for two seconds and then it was going back to normal.”

The Los Angeles Public Health Department is testing the water for health-threatening components. Results are expected back today (Feb. 21).

Cecil Hotel has remained operational after the finding of Lam’s corpse. They have asked their guests not to drink the water.
