Israeli Sniper Posts Picture Of Child In Crosshairs Online
A photo posted online by an Israeli soldier is sure to stir up a hornet’s nest after you read all the details. More after the jump.
It’s not Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but it could be an inner look at where we’re headed in 2013. There’s a war going on outside no man is safe from.
The photo above is drawing widespread criticism for its imagery. Posted on Jan. 25 by Mor Ostrovski, 20, a member of an Israeli sniper, the image shows crosshairs zeroed in on the back of the head of what appears to be a Palestinian boy in a village. As of writing this post, the photo has since been taken down and Ostrovski’s account has been deactivated.
“There are no other images to suggest that the photographer actually fired at the person in the image in this case,” wrote Palestinian activist Ali Abuminah who runs the site Electronic Intifada and drew much of the world’s attention to the photo. “The image is simply tasteless and dehumanizing. It embodies the idea that Palestinian children are targets.”
Other photos that were released by Abuminah were from Ostrovski’s account and showed him in his olive green uniform holding a variety of weapons, including a sniper rifle.
While many can use this news in the discussion of the Second Amendment here in the U.S., Mor Ostrovski will not be penalized for his photography skills. “The picture in question does not coincide with IDF’s values or code of ethics,” a spokesman added in an e-mailed statement.
