Justin Bieber’s Mom Avoiding Abortion Debate
Even as she’s promoting a new film centered on abortion, Justin Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette, wants no parts of the debate. She’s adamant about not getting tangled in abortion disputes, which have divided America for years.
Mallette serves as executive producer on Crescendo, a biopic about Beethoven’s mother, who attempted suicide and an abortion.
As a teen mom (before she birthed Bieber, Pattie was pressured to have an abortion and even attempted suicide), Bieber’s mother says she connected with the plot and wants the film to help bring in funds for teen pregnancy centers, the AP reports.
"The press has been saying that I'm producing an anti-abortion film and taking this big stance,” says Mallete, who detailed her suicide attempt in her autobiography, Nowhere but Up. “I haven't shared my stance with anyone and I'm not here to make a political statement, so there's been a lot of assumptions made."
Mallette admitted that some producers of the movie, which releases Feb. 28, are anti-abortion.
