Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit Company Signs Exclusive Multi-Year Deal with Netflix
Queen Latifah is taking her blockbuster titles from the big screen to the comfort of your own home.
Flavor Unit Entertainment, the production company owned by the actress/ singer and partner Shakim Compere, announced a multi-year licensing agreement with Netflix, the world's leading online destination for streaming television show and movies.
"Shakim and I are thrilled to do business with Netflix," Queen Latifah said in a statement. "Netflix is such a strong brand and the perfect place to showcase our projects."
Starting in Spring 2013, Netflix members will receive an exclusive first look at Flavor Unit titles including "House of Bodies," the thriller starring Terrence Howard, and crime flick "Percentage" among others.
While known for producing hit comedies "Beauty Shop," "Just Wright" and "Bringing Down The House," Flavor Unit recently crafted the Lifetime Original Movie "Steel Magnolias," starring Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott and Alfre Woodard, reeling in over 6.5 million viewers for the network. It also premiered the CW show "The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep," a music competition that included superstar mentors Gloria Estefan, John Rich, Nelly and Joe Jonas last summer.
Flavor Unit's magnetic appeal and creative approach to production is what makes the company excited to tagteam with them, according to Chief Content Officer of Netflix Ted Sarandos.
"We are delighted to work with Queen Latifah to be the exclusive destination for what are sure to be relevant, entertaining movies," Sarandos said. "Queen Latifah has a long track record of creating hits and Flavor Unit Entertainment is a fresh and exciting voice in the industry."
NetFlix has hustled to cop content, ultimately steering into the realm of original series. Its recent debut "House of Cards" won praise from the flick-loving community.
