Alicia Keys Recalls Getting Signed On ‘Oprah’s Master Class’

Five albums later, fiery songbird Alicia Keys is still on top.

On the next episode of Oprah’s Master Class, the “Girl On Fire” singer reminisces on getting signed as a teen, right as she was about to become a Columbia undergrad.

“I always have treated everything like it’s my only chance,” says Keys. “I was getting a little closer with the whole Columbia scenario and they were really moving towards potentially signing me…And it was like the big top dog, the super big guy, me and my manager. And the guy was like we are pretty close but he said something to the nature of he’ll basically give me the piano if I do the deal.”

Watch her discuss how she fell in love with a white baby grand piano below.
