Kerry Washington to Deliver George Washington University Commencement Speech

Kerry Washington is going back to school.

The George Washington University graduate will return to her alma mater on May 21 to deliver this year’s commencement speech and receive an honorary degree. The New York City gal graduated magna cum laude in 1998 with dual bachelor degrees in anthropology and sociology.

“I am delighted that Ms. Washington has agreed to give the Commencement address,” said GWA professor Leslie Jacobson in a press release. “She has captured the imagination of our students, and they will benefit greatly, as they head out into the world, from hearing her perspective both as an alumna and as a highly successful actor on stage, in film and on television.”

The Phi Betta Kappa member joins an impressive list of former speakers including First Lady Michelle Obama, NBC news anchor Brian Williams and Hillary Clinton.
