The Bullitts Talks Working With Jay-Z For 'The Great Gatsby' Soundtrack
In this day and age, there seems to be a thin line between being music and movies.
Then there's James Samuel who dabbles in both. The hip-hop producer/ film director was called upon by Jay-Z to be executive music consultant for the The Great Gatsby soundtrack, allowing him to merge his two passions.
“I was always doing both: I’ve always been music, I’ve always been film," he tells HipHopDX. "I suppose I’m a rare entity that speaks two languages fluently. They have the exact same discipline. I think they’re just perceived as much different than they actually are."
The two linked up while working on "Dinner At Tiffany's (The Shiny Suit Theory)" with Jay Electronica and have stayed in touch ever since.
Besides the obvious payday that’s to be expected, Samuel was able to meet director Baz Luhrmann through Jay-Z and establish a great working relationship. “Jay-Z is the greatest rapper of all-time, bar none…and then along with Baz Luhrmann, who’s another genius, it’s just amazing, man. Super, super, super dope.”
