GZA Teaches Science Through Hip-Hop At NY Public Schools (Video)

GZA may have dropped knowledge for the culture as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan but now he’s schooling the kids on science.

The rapper will be collaborating with Columbia University’s Dr. Christopher Emdin to find new ways to engage minority students in learning science.

“The people who most embrace hip-hop culture are the same populations who are most disinterested in school and disinterested in science,” Embrin tells CBS. “The markers of success are the students who see themselves as scientists, who are having conversations about science.”

Students like Ryan Riveria have developed a love for the program, saying, “Hip-hop is a helpful study tool.”

GZA also stressed the importance of education. “The goal is just to awaken the children,” he says, “make them more aware and embrace science and everything connected to it.”
