Interview: Anthony Mackie Shares Workout Secrets, Talks NoBar BK And ‘Pain & Gain’

Many forget that Anthony Mackie was scaring the panties off Eminem in 2002’s rap classic, 8 Mile. The New Orleans-born actor has become one of the hardest working men in Hollywood, letting his guns do the talking alongside Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling in this year’s The Gangster Squad. Mackie’s latest has him bulking up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mark Wahlberg as partners-in-crime.

A Michael Bay-directed comedy-action, Pain and Gain tells the true story of the Sun Gym Gang. This group of bodybuilders-turned-criminals (led by the masterminds, Mark Wahlberg) find themselves entangled in a kidnapping and extortion scheme that doesn’t exactly go their way.

VIBE spoke to Mackie on his preparation for the role as Adrian Doorbal, the most outrageous real-life story he’s read, plans for his Brooklyn franchise and his role in Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
