Miguel Discusses Billboard Music Awards Leg Drop, Controversial Twitter Remarks (Video)

Miguel has been on a roll in Londontown. After hitting the stage on Later… With Jools Holland, he stopped by BBC Radio 1Xtra’s show to chop it up with Charlie Sloth about his infamous Billboard Music Awards leg slam, which may now gain him a lawsuit. The “Adorn” singer recalled the event and how the the incident left him speechless. “There’s a natural inclination to make sure everyone is OK but then there’s like ‘the show must go on’ [mentality] which is professionalism so that kicks in but what sucks is that people don’t get to see what happens when the camera goes off,” he said. “As soon as the camera goes off, I’m rushing to the girl, making sure she’s OK, saying ‘Let me take you to the infirmary,’ talk to her…I haven’t watched it but I remember the feeling, just standing there, not knowing what to say…It was the most awkward thing but I’m glad she’s alright. At least, everyone got a good laugh out of it.” The VIBE cover star also explained his recent comments on Twitter that caused an uproar among his urban followers.

“More people have to acknowledge this: I see more black people tearing down other black people than I see any other culture tearing down their own culture,” Miguel said in explanation of his remarks. “Regardless of what they’re doing and whether or not you agree with that, that’s OK but I’m just talking about what I see.” He even spits a freestyle about the leg-drop at the 7:32 mark in the full interview above.
