Star Trek Into Darkness took in $70.6 million over the weekend at the box office amongst big blockbusters like Iron Man 3 and The Great Gatsby. Since opening on Imax on Wednesday, the well-reviewed film has grossed $84.1 million in the U.S. and Canada.

VIBE hit up the Hollywood premiere where we spoke to director JJ Abrams and several members of the cast and crew about the intergalactic space battles that face the crew of the Enterprise, and Spock’s love affair with Uhura, played by actress Zoe Saldana, in the summer blockbuster.

“Something that a lot of people don’t know about Spock is that he’s half-human,” says writer Damon Lindelof. “And, if I was working with Zoe Saldana very closely, I would be thinking the same things that Spock does.”
