Movies & TV

Terrence Howard made headlines earlier this year for commenting on Oprah’s, as he put it, tig ol’ bitties while working with her on the new Lee Daniels’ film The Butler. This time, O steals the spotlight with her acting prowess.

Already gaining Oscar buzz, The Butler — inspired by Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about the true story of a black butler — depicts Forrest Whitaker playing Cecil Gaines as he serves eight White House presidents over three decades. The movie is Winfrey’s (Whitaker’s wife) first big-screen appearance since 1998’s Beloved.

The all-star cast includes John Cusack, Alan Rickman, James Marsden, Liev Schreiber, Robin Williams, Orlando Eric Street (the presidents) and Jane Fonda, Minka Kelly, Melissa Leo (the first ladies). Nelsan Ellis will play Martin Luther King, Jr. with a supporting cast of Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Lenny Kravitz, David Oyelowo, Vanessa Redgrave and Alex Pettyfer.

The Weinstein Company-produced film is set to hit theaters October 18.
