Fat Joe Sentenced To Prison For Tax Evasion
Rapper Fat Joe is about to lean back in the pen. The Bronx-bred rapper was sentenced in New Jersey court Monday (June 24) to four months in prison for tax evasion, according to reports.
Joey Crack, real name Joseph Antonio Cartagena, began his trial last year and confessed to not paying his taxes in 2007 and 2008 for over $1 million in performances and royalty money.
The Terror Squad MC spoke about the trial and disappointment in his money management team with MTV News in May.
"You gotta understand we hire guys who are supposed have Harvard degrees to take care of us," said Joe "All the time you see artists, the first thing they did to you when you caught money was introduce you to a bunch of fancy guys with bow ties who are gonna take care of your money and all that and then you always see an artist or a celebrity or somebody like that goin' down for it and these guys never go down for it."
Before the sentencing in Newark, the "Pride N Joy" rapper took responsibility for the charges and apologized to his family and fans. Fat Joe will return to court in August to begin his sentence. —Desire Thompson
