Kelly Rowland Admits Destiny’s Child’s ‘Girl’ Was Written For Her

Kelly unloaded more of her dirty laundry during her tour stop in Philly.

In an interview with HOT 107.9, Ms. Rowland admitted that Destiny’s Child’s “Girl” was a heartfelt record specifically penned to address the abusive relationship she was in. “The girls wrote it for me,” Kelly says on air.

At the time, fans appreciated the sisterhood anthem for its empowerment alone, but for Kelly, the track and relationship with Beyoncé and Michelle is much deeper than their on-wax love letter. “Destiny’s Child is deeper than what people see on the surface. Those are my homies for life. Golden girls! We stuck with each other, period!”

But once audiences got a whiff of Kelly’s single “Dirty Laundry,” where the cocoa-skinned singer details Beyoncé’s attempt to convince her to leave,” listeners instantly connected the dots.
