Monica Talks Being a Southern Woman and Wife: ‘Shannon’s the Boss’ [Video]

If you didn’t love Monica before, you’ll definitely respect her after this.

On a recent episode of Jermaine Dupri’s “Living the Life,” JD and Monica joked around in a studio session, ending with the southern belle serving up some advice on making a blended family work and how she’s not your typical baby momma bringing drama to her household.

“First of all, I don’t think I like the term “baby mama.” the pregnant singer said. “I had an 11-year-relationship and two sons came from that, which was blessing and I am now married with another child on the way. So, I don’t know where the baby mama part comes in.”

Monica explained how she makes things work out with her oldest children’s father, rapper Rocko. “People always ask me, ‘How do you make a blended family work?’ It is what you make it. The first order of business as parents is we gotta respect one another. I don’t believe in the court system. I’m not stepping in no courthouse, I’m not calling them people. Now let me explain. This is my thing. I’m sure every situation may require something different, but for me, I feel like a real man will be man enough to assess the needs of his child, and make sure that it happens. I don’t need to call you and I don’t need to call the people for you.”

She elaborated, “Since I feel that way, I’ve never had any discrepancies with the father of my two oldest children at all, period, point, blank. When it’s time for it to get done, he can access the needs, come in and see what they need and it gets done.”

Monica not only dished on her role as a mother, but also a southern woman and wife to NBA baller Shannon Brown. “I still enjoy being needed. I’m the boss at my job, so I don’t feel like I should be the boss at home. Shannon’s the boss and that’s just it. You got some high society women that will argue me down, I’m not looking for an argument, I just know what works in my house. Guys say good girls are no fun, but good girls are always where they run when trouble come.”

Well said, Miss Thang. Monica remains a lady and handles all family matters in such a classy way. She and hubby Shannon Brown are expecting their first child together later this year. – Kandice Lawson
