New Music: Janelle Monáe ‘Dance Apocalyptic’

To prepare for the arrival of her sophomore album The Electric Lady Sept. 10, eclectic songbird Janelle Monáe gets the party started with her new clappity, upbeat single “Dance Apocalyptic” along with a short teaser of its complementary visual.

The flawless CoverGirl spokeswoman has been hard at work, recruiting the likes of Erykah Badu, Prince and Miguel for her follow-up to 2010’s The ArchAndroid. “We took our time to work on it. We felt a shift in the world, a shift in our music and freedom, with life and politics and where we are as a society,” she told Billboard. “Every time is not always the right time for you to come out with something.”

Watch the “Q.U.E.E.N.” singer—who is also featured on Goodie Mob’s new single “Special Education“—bust a move in the teaser above and let the band make ya dance to the full audio clip below. Also be sure to check out her performance at this Sunday’s BET Awards.
