Soledad O'Brien Joins HBO 'Real Sports'
Award-winning journalist Soledad O'Brien will lend her investigative skills to the HBO family on Real Sports. Reuniting with Bryant Gumbel on the monthly magazine show, O'Brien will report off-the-cuff, human-interest sports news. According to Yahoo! Sports, the former CNN host's first piece this month is about war veterans who use martial arts to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.
''It's exactly what I've been doing for a long time," she says of the new position, "telling stories about human beings and their struggles."
O'Brien is well-known for the popular Black in America series with CNN. However, her new deal with HBO gives the network access to developing projects under her production company, Starfish Media Group.
Soledad is not the first woman to report sports news, but her foray into the male-dominated occupation continues to chip away at the glass ceiling for ladies aspiring for sports journo jobs.
