3 Bodies Found In East Cleveland Possible Victims of Serial Killer

The bodies of three black women have been retrieved decomposing and wrapped in layers of plastic in East Cleveland, Ohio — the victims of a possible serial killer. A suspect is in custody, but police fear that there may be more victims.

Authorities responded to a report of a foul odor in the area, and were led to a garage where one body was found on Friday. The garage was being rented by a registered sex offender by the name of Michael Madison. Madison, 35, was taken into custody after a standoff with police at his mother’s home. Two more bodies were found on Saturday, one in a nearby field and the other in the basement of an abandoned house. Police say that Madison’s apartment showed “additional evidence of decomposition.”

Speaking with CNN, East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton said that police were “dealing with a sick individual.” Madison is said to have idolized convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell, who was sentenced to death in 2011 for killing 11 women in the Cleveland area.

“Unfortunately, this is a sick individual who appears to have been influenced by another sick individual,” Norton said. “If he had been out for one more hour, there’s no telling what would have happened.”

Madison is expected to be formally charged on Monday. Police and volunteers are still searching the area.
