iPhone 5C: Is A Budget iPhone On The Way?

It’s quickly becoming the photo that took the tech world by storm over the weekend.

A snapshot of packaging for the iPhone 5C, Apple’s rumored budget iPhone, appeared online by way of the Chinese discussion forum WeiPhone. The phone, say tech experts, will likely complement the upcoming iPhone 5S, which is expected to be revealed by Apple in the fall.

No one knows what the C in iPhone 5C stands for, just yet. Compact? Cheap? Convenient? Color? It is believed that it will be plastic-encased, unlike its glass and metal forefathers, contributing to its cheaper price. Video of the new white plastic case has emerged, as have pictures of the same case indifferent colors.

According to CNET, while the iPhone 5 continues to drive iPhone sales, “the iPhone 4 (first available June 24, 2010) and 4S (first available October 14, 2011) models sold well in emerging markets.” The other audience that could benefit from a budget, colorful, shatterproof iPhone? Kids.

Apple has not confirmed the rumors of the budget iPhone 5C.
