Jennifer Lopez Talks Being Homeless in the Bronx with ‘W’ Magazine

Jennifer Lopez is serving us old Hollywood glamour on the cover of W Magazine. As part of the publication’s fall fashion preview, the triple threat opted for jet black tresses, a pink lip and peacock feather dress—all of which accentuate her recent switch to an older but sexier look.

The actress, who returned to her childhood home in the Bronx for the cover spread, recalls living on a cot at her dance studio after a falling out with her mom.

“My mom and I butted heads,” she says. “I didn’t want to go to college—I wanted to try dance full-time. I was homeless. But I told her ‘This is what I have to do.'”

Luckily, a career in entertainment worked out for the 43-year-old. Within a year, Lopez started working as a dancer and eventually earned a spot on In Living Color as a “Fly Girl.” And the rest is Hollywood history.

“I love Los Angeles, but it doesn’t give me strength the way the Bronx did. All the strength that I needed for life, I got from that neighborhood,” she says of her humble beginnings.
