Kanye West Paparazzi Attack: Rapper To Be Charged With Felony for Attempted Robbery

The photographer who Kanye West allegedly assaulted at LAX airport on Friday (July 19) afternoon is looking to press charges. Following a police report, the charges against the rapper have been elevated from a battery case to felony attempted robbery.

The “Black Skinkead” rapper was exiting the airport when he was approached by paparazzi. West, who announced his “don’t talk to me” policy last week, became upset after one videographer in particular began to sound off questions. All the other cameramen seemingly respected West’s self-enforced “don’t talk” paparazzi policy. The rogue videographer, who goes by the name Dano, was the same paparazzo who drove Britney Spears over the edge in her infamous 2007 umbrella attack, reports TMZ.

“Kanye! Can we talk to you, Kanye?” the videographer egged on West at the airport. “What’s going on, man? What was up with all that stuff? Do you just want to squash all that stuff, ’cause you’re a cool guy?”

“What you’re trying to do is try to get me in trouble, so I step off and have to pay you like $250,000,” West told the paparazzo into his camera. The 36-year-old rapper then lurched for the camera, and wrestled for it with its owner. Paramedics and police were called to the scene. West drove off in a white car, while the videographer was reportedly taken to a hospital.

“Today at approximately 2:00 p.m., at the Tom Bradley International Terminal (on the arrival level curbside), Los Angeles Airport Police officers were flagged down by a citizen (photographer) who alleged that he was taking pictures of an individual when he was battered by the subject,” a statement from the LAPD read. “The alleged subject was not at the location nor was he observed by officers at the scene. LAFD was notified, responded to the location and transported the victim to a local hospital for medical attention. A police report was taken by the Los Angeles Police Department and the investigation is ongoing.”

TMZ has since obtained the video from the attacked paparazzo. It can be watched below. For a second angle, head here.
