Kanye West Praises ‘Pacific Rim,’ Guillermo Del Toro

Kanye West is shaping into quite the movie junkie now that his sixth album Yeezus is out and he has become a father. After being spotted last weekend in bright red Air Yeezy 2s, ‘Ye was strolling with his beau Kim Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner reportedly visiting the cinema in Los Angeles. With his own self-made visuals as seen in the 30-minute musical clip for “Runaway” and his short film Cruel Summer, which made waves in Cannes last May, Kanye is no stranger to big screen art. But as timelines were running amuck with his Throne counterpart Jay-Z’s album Magna Carta Holy Grail, which was exclusively delivered to Samsung users at midnight July 4, Mr. West took a moment to play movie critic on Twitter.

Pacific Rim is the sci-fi summer flick from del Toro that depicts giant monsters (“Kaiju”) creeping out from under the Pacific Ocean and terrorizing the Earth. They battle against man-made machines (“Jaegers”) in an epic showdown over who gets the planet’s ownership. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day. While Twitter users weren’t obligated to sing Hov’s praises Wednesday night, it seemed odd that Yeezy wouldn’t give digital daps to Mr. Carter for his new effort. After all, Jay and his lady reportedly made it rain on KimYe’s new pride and joy, North. Sadly, ‘Ye was nowhere to be found on MCHG.
