Marvel Announces ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ As Its Sequel Title

Marvel’s response to the Superman/Batman mash-up news is pretty impressive, as Avengers fans get to learn who will be the villain in the adventurous sequel.

Joss Whedon turned up at the end of Marvel’s Comic Con panel in Hall H with a brief teaser trailer for the Avengers sequel, which, as you have already guessed from the logo above, is subtitled Age Of Ultron. No footage is available online (no spoilers, anyway!), but the teaser trailer featured a CG rendering of the various Avengers’ iconic elements, with voice-over ripped from the first movie.

The camera rotates around, it reveals the shiny metal visage of Ultron, and the video revealed that the second super group will go toe-to-toe with the living automaton. Created by Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema, Ultron was created by Dr. Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man, to help create peaceful situations around the world. Based on Pym’s brains patterns and encased with an adamantium body, the robot develops its own intelligence, rebels, and almost immediately goes after Hank and the Avengers.

The rumor mill is churning now with the idea that soon will come word that Vin Diesel will announce at the end of this month that he will play another Avengers character, Vision, who was originally created by Ultron. With no other Avengers details released, we’re still wondering who will play the two new characters in Quicksilver and his sister the Scarlett Witch.

How much of the rogue robot’s back story will make it onto the Avengers 2 is anyone’s guess, but since he will be the big baddie, you can expect all attention to go towards Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man film as it is still in production.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron will slam down into theaters worldwide in 2015.
