Oklahoma Thunder’s Kevin Durant Gets Engaged To Monica Wright

All you basketball groupies are going to have to get another hobby, as the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar recently proposed to his girlfriend, Monica Wright, a guard who plays for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx.

Wright, who also shares the same name as a character in the 2000 film Love & Basketball, accepted Durant’s proposal, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The two have known each other since 2006, when they both ruled the D.C. high school basketball world together.

Wright, a 5-foot-11 guard, was the second overall pick in the 2010 WNBA draft. She currently averages 9.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game for the Lynx this season. Durant, also a second pick in the NBA draft back in 2007, just completed his sixth NBA season. He averaged 28.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season.

Durant and Wright have kept their relationship quiet and under wraps. Even as recently as May, a FoxSportsNorth.com article about their friendship made no reference to the two being romantically involved.

Wright is in her fourth season in the WNBA. She played her college ball at Virginia and turns 25 on July 15.
