Vixen Chat: Little Mix On Being a Young Girl Group, and How They Manage to Stay on Top

Little Mix Group

Jade Thirwall

What are the pros and cons of being in a group?
Jade: Well, there’s definitely more advantages. I would say one is always having a friend around you. The disadvantage? Hair and makeup always takes forever (laughs)

Who are some of your favorite girl groups from the past?
I absolutely love TLC. I used to love groups like SWV, Total and Destiny’s Child. All of the great harmony groups I’m inspired by.

You just snagged your first major magazine cover. What was that like?
We just couldn’t believe it to be honest. Seventeen is such a massive magazine. We got to the photoshoot; we put together all our own clothes. It was just a really fun day. We’re always having a laugh together and no matter what we do—it doesn’t really feel like work to be honest.

Has it been harder to break out in America?
I think it’s two completely different markets, so I would definitely say that America’s harder because in the UK, we came off the X Factor and people knew everything about us because of the show. We were already accepted. But at the same time, in the UK, you had to convince people why you did win and why you’re important. But you come to America and you have to start from scratch again.

If you could collaborate with one American artist, who would it be?
I love Demi Lovato. She’s so amazing and talented. Oh, and Nicki Minaj.

What’s your relationship like with other groups from the UK?
It’s important for us to support each other, especially since we’re all trying to make it in America. We’re really cool with One Direction. I think it is slightly easier for boy bands. They’ve got the image, but girls have to have more skills and prove themselves.
