Vixen Chat: Sevyn Streeter on the Best Advice She’s Received, and Finally Having the Spotlight to Herself

The music industry is rarely an arena of second chance. Whether you have tuned into the various “make it or break it” themed reality shows, or had your own experiences as an unsigned recording artist, it’s painfully evident that getting your foot in the door is often a once-in-lifetime opportunity. However, every once in a while a remarkable talent comes along and serves as an exception to this truth.

Meet the exception—Amber “Sevyn” Streeter, a 26-year-old singer, songwriter, and performer who you can accredit to writing some of the hottest songs of the summer. With hits like Chris Brown’s “Fine China”, Kelly Rowland’s “Gone”, and Ariana Grande’s, “The Way” under her belt, the anticipation of her solo Atlantic Records release has fans and industry insiders waiting on the edge of their seats.

Vixen was able to catch up with the phenom after her “R&B Live” performance at Stage 48, earlier this week. The audience, full of seasoned R&B fans and industry heavy-hitters, received Sevyn along with her label mates, K. Michelle and super group TGT (Tyrese Gibson, Ginuwine, Tank) with open ears, as they were serenaded with hits from the 90’s and today’s top 40. Streeter’s fiery performance stood out.

She has certainly been on an unexpected roller coaster ride since her career started in 2001, but one thing is for sure: The third time is indeed, a charm. —Gia Peppers
