‘The Butler’ Debuts at No. 1 at Weekend Box Office
Lee Daniels’ The Butler had a big opening week. The film, about a White House butler (played by Forest Whitaker), took in $25 million at the weekend box office.
The film beat out the action sequel Kick-Ass 2, which also debuted Friday and made $14.0M its opening weekend. The Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis-helmed We’re The Millers brought in $17.7M its second week out for a second place finish.
The Butler is the first No. 1 debut for the Weinstein Company since 2009’s Inglourious Basterds. The film’s all-star cast includes Oprah, David Oyelowo, Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Redgrave, John Cusack, Minka Kelly, Jane Fonda and more.
