Kick Drop: KD VI "NYC 66"
Harlem's Rucker Park has been the stomping ground for basketball legends for decades. From street ballers to professionals, the uptown NYC basketball court has drawn the likes of Dr. J, Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury and Pee Wee Kirkland.
In 2011, following his rookie campaign, NBA scoring champ Kevin Durant decided to compete in the annual Entertainers Basketball Classic game at the Rucker. Durant would etch his name into the history books by scoring 66 points almost at will. The lanky 6'9" forward dominated the competition, landing a barrage of three- pointers in the second half, exciting the crowd after every basket. (The moment would make its way into rap too. "I'm Durant at the Rucker, your woman's a perfect jumper," Wale spits on Curren$y's "What It Look Like.")
Nike has chosen to commemorate Durant's epic performance with the sixth release of his signature sneakers, appropriately titled "NYC 66." The burnt orange colorway collides with the dark grey Nike swoosh and KD emblem, providing for an interesting contrast. Look out for the KD VI “NYC 66” to become available in select Nike retailers towards the end of the month for $130.
