Vanessa Bush Named Editor in Chief of Essence Magazine

Earlier this week, Martha Nelson of Time, Inc. announced that journalist and author Vanessa Bush would assume the role of Editor in Chief at Essence Magazine. In addition to working as the magazine’s EIC, Bush’s tenure has included jumpstarting several campaigns including the #HeIsNotASuspect social media campaign, “Guns Down,” which addresses gun violence and “Where Smart Starts,” an education initiative.

Bush’s new duties will include controlling Essence’s overall content on and off line.

“Vanessa’s more than 10 years of experience as an editorial leader at ESSENCE will ensure continued success for the preeminent African-American women’s media brand. She has the full support of Time Inc. to execute on her vision to honor this loyal and cherished audience,” said Nelson in a statement.
