M.I.A., Versace Collaboration Set For October Release
Eclectic songstress M.I.A. isn't missing in action from the fashion world. Rumors sparked that the "Paper Planes" singer was in cahoots with Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace after audience members spotted some intriguing folder titles on her desktop at a lecture last November at MOMA PS1 in Queens, New York. Some of the labels read “Versace Prints,”, “Bootleg Versace” and “Versace Outlines”, according to MTV Style.
Now the secret project is out of the bag as M.I.A. personally confirmed the Versace collaboration at the Balenciaga show during last Thursday’s Paris Fashion Week. "I have a collaboration with Versace coming out in two weeks," she apparently told a Women’s Wear Daily reporter.
Now it's full steam ahead as the line is set to debut in early October. She will reportedly feature a capsule collection for the Versace Versus line, which is more affordable and typically works with a range of designers. The line is headed by Irish designer J.W. Anderson, and invites artists and designers to interpret the brand into their own unique visions. Before the M.I.A. speculation emerged, it was rumored that singer Lana Del Ray would collaborate with the iconic fashion label.
This wouldn't be the first taste of hip-hop for Versace. During the company's show in Milan Fashion week, Migos’ "Versace (Remix)” featuring Drake was blaring through the catwalk speakers.
