Apple Introduces iPad Air

The brand new iPad Air was unveiled at yesterday’s Apple event, and it looks like a major improvement on previous generations.

It’s 20% thinner and 28% lighter than current fourth-generation iPads, while it’s brand new A7 chip (the same one in the new iPhone 5S) will make it 72 times faster than the last iPad as well. The iPad Air will go on sale November 1st, starting at $499 for a 16GB Wi-Fi-only model and going up to $629 for a 16GB 4G LTE model.

A new iPad Mini was also announced, featuring a Retina Screen, a new A7 processor, and silver or sky gray colors. Older iPads are still sticking around for slightly lower prices.

Elsewhere, Apple announced the new operating system OS X Mavericks, which is (finally) free and available to download immediately. Senior VP of Apple Phil Schiller also rolled out new Macbook Airs and Macbook Pros featuring the usual suspects of features: better graphics, longer battery life, faster flash storage, and speedier Wi-Fi.

The heavily-rumored new Mac Pro desktop was also announced, meant for high-end graphics and video editing at a starting price point of $2,999.
