James Cameron Promises Stephen Lang Will Be Back For 'Avatar' Sequels
Stephen Lang played the tough-as-old-steel-boots antagonist in the first film, but if you saw Avatar you wouldn't think he'd be back. Guess again.
The rumor mill has been inundated with word that Arnold Schwarzenegger would invade the Avatar universe for the next three movies, but we're not so sure that is going to happen.
According to Avatar overlord James Cameron, the death of Lang's Quaritch might only be a small challenge in the process. "Stephen was so memorable in the first film, we're privileged to have him back," Cameron said. "I'm not going to say exactly HOW we're bringing him back, but it's a science fiction story, after all."
Maybe he will be brought back via Na'vi seance that was used as an attempt to bring Sigourney Weaver's character back?
"His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who's also become a good friend."
The next three Avatar projects are currently being penned by Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno. We can expect them to begin shooting sometime next year and then hit cinemas on December 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively.
