Oprah Winfrey Rakes In $600K For Charity At 'Yard Sale'
Oprah Winfrey is a money-making machine. The media maven has raised $600,000 for charity with a massive yard sale of her personal possessions held at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpinteria, Calif. on Saturday (Nov. 2).
According to the Los Angeles Times, stans went berzerk at the auction, bidding on everything from her personal art collection, furniture and other memorabilia. The auction began at 11:30 a.m. with the priciest item a set of six 18th century Louis XVI armchairs with hand-embroidered details that a bidder won at $60,000.
But even the most ordinary of items from O's house raked in top-dollar bets such as a teapot reportedly worth less than $100 sold for $1,000, while a 16-by-20-inch print of a TV Guide cover photo featuring Winfrey with an estimated worth of $200 to $400, selling for $3,000.
All proceeds will go towards Winfrey's girls leadership academy in South Africa
