Q-Tip Announces New Collaboration With Quarterly

From the Los Angeles-based subscription service Quarterly Co. comes a special delivery from rapper Q-Tip. The legendary hip-hop veteran and member of A Tribe Called Quest is the latest curator to design a gift box for his fans.

“For more than two decades, Q-Tip has been entertaining fans across the world, and we are excited to work together to give his fans an all-new experience through Quarterly,” said Mitch Lowe, CEO of Quarterly Co. and a former co-founder and executive at Netflix and Redbox. “These gift boxes will provide unparalleled insight and access into the mind of Q-Tip.”

The personalized package from Q-Tip will be chock full of items he deems inspirational accompanied by a letter explaining their significance. Past Quarterly curators include Pharrell Williams, Bill Nye, Coco and other celebrity notables.

“I love the power of social media, and the connection it gives to people all across the world, but I wanted to connect with people as an artist and create an authentic experience that shares a little of my world with them,” Q-Tip says to VIBE in a statement. “It’s my hope with this project that I can share my genuine love for music, art and culture and touch those people who love that authentic connection too.”

The Grammy Award-winning lyricist slash musician first made his mark in rap as one of the founders of ATCQ in 1988. The group recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their third landmark effort Midnight Marauders on Nov. 9. He went on to embark on a solo career, producing such singles as “Vivrant Thing” and “Breathe & Stop.”

Q-Tip has also made appearances on the big screen, starring in the 1993 John Singleton film Poetic Justice with Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur, as well as Spike Lee’s She Hate Me, The Dave Chappelle Show, Cadillac Records and Holy Rollers. He currently DJs throughout New York and is signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music.
