HBO Signs ‘The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl’

Movies & TV

HBO is known for staying fresh and different, even groundbreaking with their network and television series. What better way to maintain that than to sign on the popular web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. Issa Rae, the show’s creator, met with several other networks before HBO realized her vision and brought her (animated) fantasy to life by giving her webseries an official home.

Issa will be working with the likes of writer, actor and television producer Larry Wilmore, from Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, to bring the show to life. Wilmore has also worked on shows such as In Living Color, Sister, Sister and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Issa will co-write and star in the new series. This is a rare and groundbreaking move for HBO with Misadventures’ black lead and mostly black cast. Will you be watching? — Teresa Odato/VIBE VIXEN
